Protect the Rohingya is a South African based organisation that raises awareness about the plight of the world’s most persecuted ethnic minority.
The violence against the Rohingya is symptomatic of a long and oppressive history of discrimination for which the government is to blame.
Since the last 1970's the rohingya are denied their basic rights to citizenship, education, freedom of movement, employment, to own property or to marry without state permission and they are often used as forced labour on roads and at military camps.
The Rohingya have been labelled illegal immigrants from Bangladesh thus rendering them stateless, despite
them having lived in the country for generations.
